The Selwyn Recce permits are considered to be prospective for the presence of Carlin-type gold deposits as well as carbonate-hosted and sedimentary-exhalative ("sedex") style silver-lead-zinc deposits and sediment-hosted copper deposits. These rights occur in the form of NWT Government-granted "prospecting permits" which will enable the Company to complete exploration activities over entire individual map-sheets for a period of three years, with the exclusive right to acquire formal title within these selected areas. The area has garnered considerable attention recently with the discovery of Carlin-style mineralization in the Yukon Territory at ATAC Resources (TSX.V: ATC) Osiris gold zone discovery. The current Aben permits cover prospective targets with both Carlin-style stratigraphy and promising geochemical signatures.
As a result of a proprietary database acquired earlier this year and the extensive exploration work carried out this season, the Company has been very aggressive in staking land in the Selwyn Recce area. In total an additional 147,404 acres of highly prospective ground in the NWT and the Yukon was staked by Aben in the region. The Selwyn Recce permits were originally acquired on the basis of the proprietary geological and geochemical database obtained by Aben Resources from Eagle Plains Resources (TSX.V: EPL). The database has been assembled through decades of systematic mineral exploration in the Mackenzie Mountains consisting of extensive regional silt sampling, follow-up soil sampling and prospecting, detailed mapping and stratigraphic correlation, and examination of most of the documented historic occurrences in the Mackenzie Mountain area. A significant component of the work was the acquisition by Eagle Plains of 5700 silt sample pulps covering approximately 19,000 sq. km, collected in the 1970's by Cordilleran Engineering. Subsequently, an additional 3500 silt samples were added to the database. Originally analyzed for only lead and zinc, the samples were reanalyzed using a 30 element ICP, thereby forming an extensive proprietary dataset which is being used by Aben to target fieldwork and exploration activities in mineral-rich districts.
